WHY ELBEL MATTERS
The city is moving to sell South Bend's largest and most ecologically diverse park to a private developer, but there are better alternatives.
At 313 acres, Elbel is home to an ecologically important wetlands, providing residents with a place to run and hike, photograph and observe rare and endangered wildlife, and engage in a variety of other leisure activities such as golf.
Concerned residents of South Bend urge the city to consider this matter through an open, participatory process and to consider alternatives that ensure continued public access to this land. [Sign the petition!] We are confident that we can find a fiscally responsible solution, taking into account what's best for the city of South Bend and all residents.
FOR OUR FUTURE
If this beautiful park is sold, it will be nearly impossible for the city to acquire a similar piece of park land in the future.
FOR THE PUBLIC
All of us currently benefit from Elbel's park, golf course, beauty, outdoor recreation, and ecologically important wetlands.
